Juicing and fruit day

Today I'm just eating fresh fruit and juicing. Making cucumber, lettuce, apple and spinach juice. Adding garlic and ginger to give the juice some zip.

Blue Funk Over

Well for the last couple of months I have been in a true blue funk. My sister was sick and finally passing was just so stressful. I have been on an unhealthy eating frenzy. So fat in fact, I refuse to get on the scale for another week.

Today starts the return of healthy eating. Big, big, big salads, fruits, nuts, seeds, and veggie dishes, mostly raw. Juicing daily. No more alcohol, caffeine or soda. Until there is a marked improvement, no more cheese, dairy meat except occasional fish. Back to LA fitness Monday morning. In other words, I'm back.

Will keep you posted.

The worse happend

Sad to report my sister died this morning. I have to make arrangements to return to Chicago. Thanks all for your kind words during my crisis.

I did juice today. Needed energy. Made a celery, beet, cucumber, carrot combination.

Also, had giant salad of canned salmon, spring salad mix, fresh corn from cob and tomatoes.

Renew Restart Rejuvenate

If anyone reading this blog missed me these last few weeks, it because I have been dealing with major family crisis.

The first crisis is my older sister. She was hospitalized for a myocardial infarction. This was bad enough but the poor dear had many other systems failing. Mainly her kidneys. The doctors determined she needed kidney dialysis and my sister refused the treatment. No amount of persuasion from the doctors could make her agree to kidney dialysis. Because the doctors didn't see how they could help my sister with the dialysis they transferred her from one hospital to a hospice unit.

My sister lives in Chicago and I'm in Florida. When the doctors called me and told me the situation I made arrangements to come to Chicago. However, I had no idea she had been transferred to hospice. To make matters worse, while in hospice, she against doctors orders insisted on being released home. She was determined to "die" at home. The hospice hospital sent her home in an ambulance with a hospice kit.

When I arrived in Chicago, my sister was back in the hospital. Apparently, she was found at home passed out lying in her own feces. The new hospital when they saw me had only one question -- "are you here to give us permission to pull the plug on you sister?" My answer, "HELL NO!" "I WANT EXTRAORDINARY EFFORTS MADE." Bottomline, they made me sign a ton of consent papers and went to work on my sister.

She is now eating, talking and occasionally smiling. She is not out of the woods yet, but sooo much better. The next problem is with my mother. Will talk about that in the next blog.

Currently, I'm back in Florida and going back to healthy eating. God only know how much I've gained during all this stress.

The Dirty Dozen: Fruits and Vegetables

If you are on a budget like me and can not afford to always buy organic the following are considered the Dirty Dozen:

apples
carrots
celery
cherries
grapes
kale
lettuce
nectarines
pears
peaches
peppers
strawberries

You need to take extra care when you wash these. They contain the highest number of pesticide residues. Use a natural bristle brush and lightly scrub all the surfaces in addition to washing them.

20. To reduce my blood pressure.
21. So I can feel comfortable.
22. So I can run on the beach in a bathing suit and feel proud.
23. So taking a bath is a luxurious thing, instead of taking a shower so I won't risk overflowing the tub.
24. So my pants won't wear out between my legs while the rest of them are still in good shape.
25. To be able to read the scale by just looking down, straight down.
26. To not feel my fat jiggle again!
27. So I can look in the mirror from the neck down and like what I see.
28. To feel strong and fit again.
29. So I can show off my muscles, instead of just feeling fat.
30. So I can buckle up in the car and feel comfortable.

82. So a regular towel goes all the way around me, and maybe even looks cute.
83. So my socks pull all the way up.
84. So I can hug my knees to my chest again, and it’s comfortable.
85. So I can sit on a chair, and have my feet on that chair too, and not be sitting on them.
